20 years ago at the age of 19 I attended my first Iyenga yoga
class. I knew this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my
life. And from this first class there has not been a day in my
life that yoga has not played a part in some form.
I continued to practice Yoga in the Iyenga tradition for 7 more
years. This practice was strongly based in asana but I could
feel a deeper realisation unfolding the more i moved within my
body through asana. So I began regular Vipassana meditation
practice as part of my yoga. For me there was no yoga without
meditation.
The yoga was working through me and I became drawn to other
forms of healing and awakening modalities all serving the yogic
intention to awaken to our true nature.
My emersion into well being took many forms; Flotation tanks,
The forum, Shamanism, Buddhism, Psychology, Martial Arts,
Fitness instruction, Swim Coaching, Taoism and Zen… All became
areas of study and teaching. All deepening my yogic practice and
all becoming part of my practice.
After a challenging and confusing childhood My mission was to
find peace amidst the seeming kaos of life. And to guide others
in the same direction.
At 26, (13 years ago) I began practicing Astanga Yoga with my
present Beloved teacher Dena Kingsberg. I still continue to
study and practice in this manner, however with true heart I
embrace all forms yoga takes. As life reflects unto me, all is
yoga.
I began teaching yoga 'one on one' 9 years ago as an extension
of my personal training business. Through clients it was
requested I offer classes to the wider public.
If I was to continue to work with people teaching yoga and
health and well being, it seemed essential I extend my
background. So I completed a degree in Human Movement, majoring
in sports science. I then entered into a teaching degree of
which I've not yet finished.
I have now been leading yoga classes for 4 years. And it is
through my classes I have had the privilege to meet Lance, Susie
and Leshan. Their integrity towards yoga and sharing it with the
world has greatly inspired me to further practice and look
towards a future of teaching with them.
May every moment be a yogic awakening. Namaste.
